Background
We are seeking to appoint one (1) junior technical resource on a permanent, full-time basis within our Transportation Division, based in our Pietermaritzburg office.
This appointment is intended to strengthen technical production capacity and support delivery resilience across an active portfolio of transportation and municipal infrastructure projects.
The role will focus primarily on technical production, site support, and structured professional development under supervision.
The job title (Junior Engineer / Technologist / Technician) will be aligned to the successful candidate’s qualification and registration pathway.

Skills & experience required
3 – 5 year’s post under-graduate experience in Transportation / Infrastructure Engineering, particularly:
Recognised BSc / BEng / BEng Tech / Adv Dip Eng, BTech / Dip Eng Tech, Dip Eng / NDip in Civil Engineering
Geometric design and / or
Municipal infrastructure design of roads and stormwater
Advantageous skills:
Traffic engineering experience
Transport Planning experience
Civil engineering design for building projects experience
General requirements
Computer Programme skills:
Proficient in MS Office Suite, particularly MS Excel
Proficient in AutoCAD
Proficient in Civil 3D
Advantageous Computer Programme skills:

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Regular liaison and reporting to the Executive Manager or other Responsible Person as per project requirements.
Under supervision of the relevant Project Leader, carry out Feasibility Studies, Preliminary and Detailed Design for Transportation or municipal infrastructure projects
Provide support on Traffic Engineering projects, as required.
Provide support on Transport Planning projects, as required.
Assistance with preparation of tender documents including detailed specifications, general conditions of contract and schedules of quantities.
Assistance with monitoring and implementation of site construction work as, where and when required, on a part-time of full-time basis.
Attend meetings and write notes and reports.
Produce and/or supervise the production of technical drawings, designs, reports and documents as directed.
Check all drawings, designs, reports and documents produced in accordance with the Company’s Quality Management System’s requirements as set out in the applicable work instructions and checklists.
Carry out site inspections, project and network level assessments and other assigned construction monitoring activities in accordance with the Company’s Quality Management System’s requirements as set out in the applicable work instructions and checklists.
Compliance with and managing direct reports (if applicable) compliance with the company’s Quality Management System (ISO9001:2015) Business Management System (BMS) and the Project Management Online Guide (PMOG).
Register as a candidate with ECSA (if not already registered) and Mariswe’s Blueprint Programme to ensure advancement towards registration as a Professional Engineer/Technologist/Technician.
Complete and submit monthly Blueprint reports as per annual calendar.
Maintain regular and continued professional development through on the job training, in-house courses, seminars or outsourced specialist training as required and as agreed with the designated Executive Manager or other Responsible Person.
PROFESSIONAL ENGAGEMENT & DEVELOPMENT
Participate in professional organisations for marketing, industry recognition and networking.
Perform research and write technical papers for publication or presentation at industry related conferences.
Carry out research, compile relevant data, assist with the evaluation of technical and financial aspects, assist with cost estimates and budget quotations for Civil Engineering proposals / bids.
Participate in professional organisations for marketing, industry recognition and networking.
From time to time, as may be required, to assist with marketing and business development initiatives.
Achievement of objectives will be measured and reviewed during the annual staff appraisal.
