📋 Job Overview
Toyota is seeking a skilled and experienced Group Leader Maintenance professional to join its Durban operations team. Reporting to the TCP-ED Plant Maintenance Section Manager, the successful candidate will lead maintenance teams and ensure plant equipment, automated systems, and production facilities operate efficiently and safely.
This role involves coordinating maintenance schedules, conducting fault diagnostics, improving equipment reliability, supporting continuous improvement initiatives, and maintaining ISO and Toyota operational standards. Candidates must possess strong leadership ability, technical expertise in automated systems, and experience within manufacturing or automotive environments.
Applicants should be comfortable working shifts, overtime, shutdowns, call-outs, and standby duties when operational requirements demand.
🛠️ Job Description
✔ Coordinate plant maintenance activities and shutdown planning
✔ Lead maintenance teams to support uninterrupted vehicle production
✔ Perform fault diagnostics on PLCs, robotics, drives, conveyors, lifters, and ovens
✔ Develop and implement preventative maintenance schedules
✔ Monitor sophisticated machinery and perform proactive repairs
✔ Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and implement corrective actions
✔ Maintain ISO standards, safety compliance, and Toyota operational requirements
✔ Improve MTTR and MTBF performance targets
✔ Develop apprentices and artisans through technical leadership
✔ Ensure legal compliance within the maintenance department
✔ Monitor departmental budgets and maintenance costs
✔ Lead continuous improvement and Kaizen initiatives

🔹 Qualifications
✔ N4 Electrical/Mechanical plus Trade Tested Millwright qualification
OR
✔ National Diploma (S4) in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering

✔ Minimum 5 years post-qualification maintenance experience
✔ Experience within automated manufacturing environments essential
✔ Paint plant experience highly advantageous
