Core purpose
Train and certify individuals in the safe, legal, and effective use of firearms. Ensure learners meet competency standards required by the Firearms Control Act and PSIRA/SAPS.
Key competencies
PFTC grading status
Valid firearm competency certificates for (Handgun, Self-Loading rifle, Manual Operated rifle & Shotgun)
PSIRA registration Grade A/B for training security personnel
Strong communication and risk management skills
Responsibilities
Training Delivery: Conduct theoretical and practical firearms training for handguns, shotguns, rifles, and semi-auto weapons.
Safety Oversight: Enforce strict range safety protocols. Conduct safety briefings, supervise live-fire exercises, and manage emergencies on the range.
Legal Compliance: Teach firearm law, use of deadly force, and responsibilities under the Firearms Control Act 60 of 2000. Ensure all training meets SAPS and PFTC accreditation standards.
Assessment: Evaluate learner competency through written tests, practical shooting assessments, and simulated scenarios. Complete proficiency certificates and training reports.
Weapon Maintenance: Demonstrate and teach firearm handling, cleaning, loading/unloading, and malfunction drills.
